4 Day Update Of Results…

Friday, Saturday, Sunday & Monday…

Friday…

Once again I promised myself not to get too caught up in tennis, but I did…

It stinks of the old errors I used to make with the horse racing as I started to learn it, quite simply not letting profits run long enough and cutting out losses too late!!

Same problems, different sport! I traded 3 games, one I started to do well in before taking too much risk at the end but these things happen.

Also, some of the matches I selected to trade were not of great use as they only went two sets and there was very little return in market prices.

The racing was ok and I made up for my shortfall on the tennis but all in all, I didn’t really enjoy Ascot this week just gone this year…

Saturday…

Ascot seemed a lot better than the previous days, which was unsurprising being Saturday. It left me wondering if the fact Ascot was on Channel 4 this year with all the adverts it had an effect on liquidity supposed to previous years on the BBC??

Anyway, it wasn’t too bad of a result… I felt it was pretty tough going in general.

Sunday…

Sunday felt pretty weak in general and I only traded about an hour for that reason. Along with the fact I had other things to do I just didn’t see it as worthwhile really, so I cut it short…. by this stage in the month I have kinda resigned myself to the fact I have been a bit lazy with this challenge and not really pushed myself a lot at all spending a lot of evenings in the beer garden and random days/afternoons off – or losing cash on the tennis!! probably should have learnt tennis another time!

Anyway, that leads me to Monday… I had the day off, came in to see Nadal getting a pasting on the tennis, thought hmm this could be one of those big turnaround games from massive odds…. threw away a few quid and traded the horses for an hour or so to make up for my shortfall before the evening’s Webinar.

All in all, I’ve let the end goal disappear somewhat… this last week ill make a bit of an effort for a final push just to get the total up but I knew from the start to hit £10k in one month Id have to be pretty determined.. which I haven’t just lately! Whoops!!

Still, I’ve lived a little this month, it’s always important to get the balance right!

  1. I wouldn’t be too disheartened you’ve made a decent amount for what’s effectively your first year full time trading.

I doubt you’ll find too many other ft traders having set themselves targets of 10K months in their first year or other years for that matter. Have some perspective in what you’ve achieved and stop chasing or setting targets. The more you make the sooner you’ll hit that 250K PC barrier and believe me if you’re still chasing targets when that hits you’ll soon come a cropper trying to make up that 60% shorthfall.

I think you may find the switch from horses to tennis a step too far especially if you’re doing both at the same time. Tennis trading is a different kettle of fish and very much based on what’s actually happening on court rather than what people think may happen. You’re doing the right thing having a crack at it though as there are large amounts flying around for Wimbledon and plenty of movement in the market. Just be prepared to accept your limitations as it’s a hard one to crack. Despite trying for years I still haven’t managed to crack the tennis to the same degree as the nags.
