Telling The Boss to ‘Stuff’ His Job For Christmas…

stuff it for christmas

Not Long Now…

Only a couple of days left till Christmas, this evening I’ve just picked up my eldest son. It’ll be the first time I’ve had him for the Christmas period so I’m as excited as him despite the age gap!

While I was driving around the M25 it reminded me (as it usually does) how lucky I am. Not to being caught up in the 9 – 5 rat race. Thinking about previous years in my working life, it often seemed worse at Christmas time. Not getting time off etc…

It may well be down to my choice in jobs and luck of the draw. Being in the Army and having worked for BT previous to trading Betfair for a living it nearly almost seemed I’d drawn the short straw for Christmas leave. But not this time!

Last year I traded a fair amount through the festive period. It’s hard not to, knowing there will be added liquidity to the usual cards bringing the opportunity to pull in some bigger than average results. This year I think I’ll tell the boss to ‘stuff it’ though, seeing I can. Something I’ve wanted to do in the past on many occasions!

Seeing I am the boss it won’t cause too much of a stir! Kids don’t stay young for long so I don’t want my boys memories of Christmas being me running off to the office for a few races, a long time dead and all that, the money can wait.

Todays Trading…

Today though I couldn’t help myself. I knew it’d be the last chance to get a few races in before the break away, despite it being a Monday.. (the worst day of the week generally). The markets were a bit skittish on the whole as you may expect, with decent opportunities being few and far between. I made a bit of a mess of one decent position but these things happen…

With the markets being pretty dead until late on I did something I never have before (and probably won’t do in the future as it’s a bit distracting) brought the PlayStation 4 into the office to kill the time in the gaps between…

Betfair Profit and Loss Poor Day

See, trading Betfair you really can do what you like at work! Well I do anyway…

Impact on Results…

I’m pretty sure it won’t be a permanent feature as although it stopped me getting involved too early on several occasions it also encouraged me to miss a few races all together! and not give some my full attention… as the P&L shows between 1.30 & 2.30.
Betfair Profit and Loss Poor Day

One thing to bear in mind if you do get stuck in while your off work is to be patient, try not to let the situation affect you emotionally when it doesn’t go your way and remain consistent!

As you can see my result today reflects a substandard effort although keeping things steady with a few small wins and very few losses adds up! £200 might not be impressive but if you was to keep that £10 race average up throughout the year it can mount up pretty quickly… and more importantly when consistency comes, so does trading confidence… leading to bigger results! (when the situation permits it).

  1. On average how big are your stakes to gain £10 out of a race. Are you doing smaller stakes with bigger price swings? Or large stakes for a few ticks?

  2. you are lucky about your current source of income.
I have tried to be profitable on betfair two banks later and 3 years later still not profitable. and stuck with job 7a – 10 pm!
    so you are very lucky
