#Cheltenham Trading #1 of 4: DAY ONE

Cheltenham 2018 1

That’s it, day one’s out the way! Did you trade it? First time?

Here’s a quick update from me along with a few extra bits you can expect to see this week…

Marmite:

So day one is always the same, or so it seems. I can’t quite put my finger on why, but it’s like Marmite. You either love it or hate it.

For me, it was a little up and down, by the end of the day I’d found my feet though. Just about every year this happens if you look over the blog. A unique mixture of enhanced expectations, excitement and market conditions we haven’t seen for a while are probably the contributing factors. Over the last couple of months, the exchange markets have been quite bleak. They always are in January and Feb. To then flip to enhanced liquidity with large piles of unmatched money can be a little bit of a shock.

If it’s you first Cheltenham, chances are you’re feeling a little bewildered right now. Don’t, as the week goes on most people settle into doing business that bit different. Rome wasn’t built-in a day as they say!

If you want a few pointers, here’s a double Q & A video released this morning…

Always follow the opportunity, rather than looking for some kind of arbitrary value or function. These kind of beliefs are floored, it’s why trading will never be a one-size-fits all system!

  1. Hi Caan,

Just watched this video at 20:00 (not sure when you posted it) and wish I’d seen it before trading today. It’s my 1st attempt at trading the festival and it seemed to go ok BUT I got involved in a couple of races at other meetings and lost my profit on them! Doh!

Still, thanks to your advice, I’ll steer clear next time and hopefully make a profit. 🙂

  2. Typical Cheltenham for me, nothing on the main meeting but the knock on effect of more money on the supporting meetings threw up some juicy opportunities

    1. Depends on your approach and style. Certainly harder to play at Cheltenham if you don’t like lots of price ques or have a reduced bank.

  3. Hi Caan
Just starting out so minimum stakes so Cheltenham was no good for me (waiting in a queue to get a fill). If l have progressed by this time next year with large stakes l can see it will be different.
Didn’t have a lost yesterday (12 markets ) so it was a great day. Thanks for all your help, will be taking advantage of the offer on the video pack

  4. I traded 2 races today, 1 scalping where I made 18p but it was small stakes and my first time doing it so I was glad I was in profit, the second was a back to lay and I made about £8 on it so I was happy at that.
I also did some MB as I was more comfortable with that.
Baby steps for now but I am learning and getting used to geeks toy.
