Profitable Upset: Federer v Cilic £500+ Profit

Wimbledon…

Federer v Cilic

What a match… and what an upset (given the beginning).

If you we’re trading it; the market was pretty impressive too. Giving traders some significant over-reactions and liability dumps…

It’s been by far the most enjoyable match to trade during Wimbledon this year for me.

Market Chaos…

There are a whole selection of things I look out for in a tennis match. But the most attractive of all is when someone like Federer decide’s to suddenly jump up a few gears, today was exactly one of those instances.

The confusion and panic in the market at points was massive. If you we’re patient, you could have made a considerable sum with no risk whatsoever…

I made a few mistakes myself, but things turned out pretty well in the end. Nobody’s perfect right?

With 24 Million matched at the time of screenshot above, I’ve no doubt my participation was minuscule in the grand scheme of things. Highnsight’s a great thing, but with the kind of money (and momentum) bouncing around larger stakes could have been used, far larger. I need to think that through some more in future…

Pressure Cooker…

Men’s tennis isn’t usually my favourable choice when it comes to trading tennis, purely because I’m quite impatient and breaks of serve materialise less. But once Cilic was a set and break up, it was inevitable pressure would increase. Better judges of the sport may have noticed it sooner than I but the cracks slowly started to appear when Cilic failed to seal the second set.

Once the crowd started to respond to Federer’s consistent advances things fell apart somewhat quicker. Imagine how horrible that must feel for the entire crowd to be egging your almost-defeated opponent on as you start to make more errors. Credit has to be given to Federer though, keeping his cool under the conditions was quite impressive, even if isn’t the first time. I tend to think that’s one of the main differences between winners and losers in tennis, keeping their cool.

Future Play…

I do wonder what kind of impact that match will have had on the Federer. Playing five sets is always going to take its toll to some extent, and opponents aren’t going to get any easier…

If a similar kind of situation should arise again I’ll be on hand watching tentatively. Hope you had a good result from it!

  1. So….. what actually did you do? I don’t mean specific bets….. when was the entry etc
I’m aware the market overreacts when Federer breaks for example or gets broken because he’s a premium player and generally the market reacts differently then it would go lesser players.

Thanks for posting what you do, I’m picking up good information.
