November: Slow Down? Reflection and Progress

November

It happens each year. Generally speaking, the racing markets slow down.

November is generally a dull month for pre-race traders. In previous years, it’s left me twiddling my thumbs…

Here’s a quick preview of what’s happened recently for me, and what’s likely to be around the corner!

Reflection: Recent Times

Trading Guide Update

If you’ve been following the blog closely over the last few months, you may have seen I updated the trading guide. I’m quite pleased to say; feedback has been extremely good. And, if you hadn’t notice but have purchased it in the past (but not seen the update) drop support an email and we’ll make sure you get access at no extra cost.

But now that’s out-of-the-way, this has left me wondering, what next? At the moment I’m unsure. Outside of trading, it leaves me at a little bit of a crossroads. Where my time is best invested isn’t 100% clear right now, I’ve developed a hunger for continual improvement. More on that in a moment.

Earlier in the month I also appeared at the matchbook trader’s conference, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Maybe there’ll be more like this in the future?

For now, I’d like to take this time to ask you; the readers. If you can take a second to comment below, what would you like to see more from this site over the next 12 months? Be it’s YouTube videos, guidance updates, additional blogs, or maybe even pushing into other areas of interest. Let me know by adding suggestions at the end of this post…

Progress: What’s Next?

The festive period is just around the corner. As usual, I expect the Christmas horse racing markets will be hectic. So if this is your first Christmas trading Betfair, I would advise you to enjoy the time away from your ordinary job and focus on two or three specific trading sessions. Each year, balancing trading with family around Christmas can be tricky. It’s often best to agree things in advance if your partner’s not that understanding.

The highlight of the festive period, as far as racing goes, is generally the King George and the Boxing Day card. If there’s one window of opportunity to target, that is probably the one. But even if you can’t, just remember, there’s always lots more racing. It’s not necessarily worth upsetting loved ones and those around you for the sake of one afternoon’s trading, even if it is a better opportunity than usual!

Beyond Christmas I’ll have to ponder my goals for twenty-eighteen. I’m starting to feel holiday withdrawal symptoms at the moment, although I promised myself not to be quite so frivolous. How long that restraint lasts I don’t know. A little snowboarding might be on the cards.

Don’t forget to drop us any suggestions for the new year…

    1. Cool thanks, Graham. Thought some things were obvious when showing things the right way but will certainly note this down and look at improvement there!

      1. Maybe you could set up a quiz/test for people to see what they would do in certain situations to see if they would make the right decision. Then you would get feedback on whether or not your techniques are getting through to our sometimes thick skulls 🙂

  1. Hi Caan,
How about an article and maybe a few videos on straight in-play laying?
Not back to lay, just plain laying, using Geeks Toy.
Must be quite a few opportunities out there.
    Just a thought!

  2. Over the years I’ve spent a lot of time studying volatility (pre-race) and it would be nice to get a different viewpoint on that

  3. Hi Caan,
Could we have more of a breakdown on the videos , why you choose that horse to trade, why you reckoned that it was the correct time to enter (and exit) also a few vids on trades that went wrong and your thought process after it?

    regards

  4. Hi Caan, have you ever considered applying the skills you’ve developed over the years in the financial markets? It would definitely be challenging & something you could dabble in in the quieter racing periods. Maybe some time in 2018 it would be nice to see a comparison video between Betfair trading vs financial trading. I’d be interested to hear any of your opinions on the subject in general!
