Looking for a sports betting tipster who can consistently make you money from the sports betting markets?
In today’s article, we will cover everything you need to know about the world of sports betting tipsters. Including the following topics:
- Should you use free or paid tipsters?
- Betting tipsters you must avoid
- Red flags to look out for
- What makes a good betting tipster?
- Importance of proofing and results
- Best free betting tipsters
- Best paid betting tipsters
There are a couple of factors to look at before taking the plunge and investing your hard-earned cash…
Free Or Subscription Tipsters?
If you’re paying for a sports betting tipster – they should have a proven track record of profitable bets. When it comes to free betting tipsters despite the fact that they are free, you should still be doing some due diligence. At the end of the day, you don’t want to lose your hard-earned money following poor tipsters.
There are a lot of helpful free services out there but let’s first focus on the key aspects you should look for before following a tipster.
- Proven Track Record: Consistent success over a significant period, generally the more bets the better.
- Transparency: Clear and honest about past results, 3rd party proofing is always a bonus.
- Specialization: Expertise in specific sports or leagues.
- Reliability: Provides clear, concise, and timely tips.
- Risk Management: Advises on bankroll management and stakes reasonably.
- No Unrealistic Promises: Avoids guaranteeing wins or making exaggerated claims (even the best tipsters have losing periods.)
- Accessibility: Easy to contact and responsive to inquiries.
- Beat The Betfair SP: If betting on horse racing, consistently beating the Betfair SP is a positive sign.
Every successful tipster may not meet all these requirements, the more of these boxes they tick however is a good sign. Now we have covered what to look for in a good betting tipster, let’s take a look at the other side of the equation.
Let’s look at common scams from free tipster services…
Tipster Red Flags
Bookmaker Affiliates – There’s a tonne of these all over social media. They offer enhanced prices and claim to be successful just by betting on Acca’s. They send you an affiliate link to bookmakers and want you to lose. That’s why they use the Acca’s – the ultimate mug bet.
If you take the example above, the two links shared in the tweet are affiliate links. This means that the tipster takes a share of bookmaker profits on referred customers (incentivized to provide losing tips basically)
Percentage Of Profits – This has been a recent problem. Tipster services get your phone number from somewhere (who knows where!), they ring you and give you a tip. Then they claim that if it wins you have to give them a percentage of the profit, or else they say double your stake and half of the winnings are to be sent to them.
These services are a scam. They have been known to ring eight people and give them eight different horses in one race so they know they can claim a winner. Because these “services” aren’t online they can get away with this.
The Best Free Sports Betting Tipsters
Although there are a lot of mug sports betting tipsters out there, there are some profitable tipsters that you should be aware of, some of which offer selections for free!
Here are a couple that I believe are worth following:
Barstewards Enquiry (Horse Racing)
The Barstewards podcast is focused on the sport of horse racing and features several respected punters. Whilst they do offer a paid service that has long term profitable results. Which is profitable at both advised and BSP odds, they also give out free selections via their podcast.
Barstewards features professional horse racing bettors Ley Keys, Andy Richmond and Quentin Franks. Alongside other guests. If you are looking to make money from the betting on horse racing, this podcast is a great follow.
BetonValue (Football)
Bet on Value is a solid follow for free football betting tips. The majority of his tips can only be placed on early markets using soft bookmaker accounts. If you have access to these accounts then Betonvalue can help pinpoint excellent value bets in the market.
The bets are always well-researched, with a small write-up and the suggested odds attached. This is a tipster that has been on twitter for a number of years. He is definitely one of the better football tipsters to follow!
The Best Paid Sports Betting Tipsters:
Next up we are going to take a look at some of the best-paid tipsters available to follow. These Tipsters are from the website Tipstrr (Read our review). Which is a platform that evaluates hundreds of betting tipsters, highlighting the very best tipsters available.
Under Dog Racing Tips (Horse Racing)
One of the stand out horse racing tipsters on the platform is “Under Dog Racing Tips”, this is a tipster that boasts some impressive stats betting into soft bookmakers:
- Win Rate – 24%
- Average Odds Bet – 16.66
- Return on investment – 35.3%
- Average Profit Per Month – £1,709 to £10 stakes
It should be noted that this tipster does not win at the Betfair SP odds. This is due to the fact that it finds value with bookmakers in the early markets and odds shorten leading up to race time.
Lulas BTTS (Football)
Next up we have a tipster that focuses on the both teams to score market. Lulas BTTS selections have a very impressive record, let’s have a look at some long-term stats:
- Win Rate – 39%
- Average Odds Bet – 2.79
- Return on investment – 8%
- Average Profit Per Month – £256 to £10 stakes
Again this tipster focuses on finding value with soft bookmakers (a common theme for most tipsters). If you want to follow Lula BTTS having an account with Betfair sportsbook or 888 would be needed. Due to most selections being sent out with these bookmakers.
Conclusion
In conclusion, exercising due diligence is crucial when considering advice from sports betting tipsters. This article has highlighted the common red flags associated with most social media tipsters. However, there are reputable tipsters available that we have identified throughout this piece.
For those with limited time, following a trustworthy betting tipster with a successful long-term record can be profitable.

I follow Hugh but am applying a different strategy. I wait for the tweet, watch the market move and lay the tip. 5 mins before race start the price moves back out to its real odds which is where I green up for a profit!
Why not trade it both ways? Down as well as back up?
Hi when hugh Taylor puts his tips up the price has already gone on betfair I’ve checked this so he is either backing them first on there then reading out or his friends or someone on atr so value has gone
Do you know trusted tipsters from other disciplines? I follow a lot of tipsters and also would like to pay them, but I mistrust them a lot. I could not recommend one. At the moment I do not pay anybody.
You can pick the winners yourself, it’s the greed and patience that kill the person of the dream. Wait for the right bet nags or footy don’t go chasing and have the right bank.
I’ve tried lots and lots of tipsters never got 1 that won . They write great stories but as soon as you join it’s well we’re just going trough a bad patch DON’T GO NEAR THEM. best of luck
