Review: Sure Thing: Greatest Coup in Horse Racing

Verdict:

Nick Townsend tells the story of Barney Curley superbly. This is a must-read book for any Horse Racing fan. It’s a compelling read, it really gets into the nitty-gritty of what happened and brings all the characters to life. Even if you don’t like or have an interest in betting, this is still worth reading. Curley is a far more complex character than just a man who plots to beat the bookies, and he has lived an incredible life. When you start reading this book you won’t be able to put it down. It really highlights how much planning Curley went to the day he landed his biggest coup of all.

The book gets a 9/10 from us. It’s an excellent read about an amazing story. It’s highly recommended by us, especially for horse racing fans and anyone who likes betting.

Positive Points:

  • The book could be shorter, some padding
  • An audiobook is not available

If you love horse racing or betting, you will enjoy this book – there is no doubt. Even if you don’t like horse racing or betting, you will still really enjoy the read. The story is told very well and you know that there is more to Barney Curley than just money. Winning is everything, but he does it for the right reasons.

Barney Curley and his betting coups is a very unique story, the likes of we will probably never see again. The betting industry is a very different place now compared to what it was then, and it’s great to look back at days gone by with this book.
