Recently I’ve had a lot of messages from people who want to do just that. Mainly due to ‘business decisions’ and ‘affordability checks’.
It appears there’s a new trend with betting companies using these regulatory checks to weed out consistent winners. Frustrating times.
I’ve had a little experience with this myself in the past so thought I’d share the most effective way to file an official complaint against a betting company.

Your first port of call beyond the specific operator’s resolution process is IBAS.

For wider problems that extend beyond individual cases, you will need to contact the UK gambling commission.

Formal Complaints Outside of the Industry
Taking things further on an individual level or complaining about betting industry-wide problems such as affordability checks, should be directed to your local MP.

Advertising Standards Authority
If you believe an operator is falsely representing themselves, you may want to take up a complaint with the ASA. Be sure to check the info in the video above first.
Raising Concerns Where it Matters…
Currently, the industry is going through a ‘transitional phase’ where operators are pushing hard for more and more information on users. The reason they do this is due to pressure from the UKGC and Government ministers who want stringent checks to prevent problem gambling. Whilst I believe this is a good thing, it’s important that we all raise the relevant problems that these checks are creating. Particularly when betting companies are using these checks as a way to stop successful users.
Over the last months, I have had many readers of this blog reach out as their exchange account has been closed or limited due to affordability. Some of which have been successfully matched betting or sports trading. Their problem is simple – winnings are not registered as a valid source of wealth.
Problems extend beyond those groups though as many ordinary recreational users are being caught in the process. The only way to combat these issues is to file the relevant complaints against betting companies as they happen, particularly where the operator is being unfair.
