A quick but important one, earlier in the week somebody contacted me with account security problems.
Unfortunately, they weren’t even aware of Betfair’s two step authentication process. If they had, it’d saved them some money (and a lot of stress).
Two step authentication has been around for some time on Betfair now. The aforementioned contact prompted me to write in this post…
Trading exchanges is a hard enough problem in itself without having to login one day and find somebody has either bet or tried to withdrawal your trading bank, particularly if you’re keeping a significant amount of money inside Betfair or any other exchange for that matter.
So what can you do about it?
Setting up Betfair two step authentication is much like when you login to your bank, there is an optional authentication process you can set up. To do this, you just need visit the security section under your account. There are instructions on how to do it as you go, or you can check out the YouTube series that Betfair published themselves (bottom of this post).
Once you’ve configured and set this up, you’ll find when logging into your Betfair account you’re presented with an additional screen that requests code from the authentication app. Obviously for anyone that doesn’t have this, they can’t login to your account. Pretty cool, eh?
I honestly thought it was something that everybody was already aware of, so if not, hopefully this post will save at least one user a small nightmare. There are additional features if you’re somebody who’s regularly logging in and out such as recognising trusted devices but I’ll leave the Betfair examples to explain that for you.
